An abdominal ultrasound is a type of ultrasound scan that screens your abdomen region, which includes the kidneys, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, and liver. Also known as stomach ultrasound, this image diagnostic test is usually conducted to identify the reasons for unexplained abdominal pain. The abdominal ultrasound is also widely used to diagnose kidney and gallstones, along with the detection of blood clots. The stomach ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic test that works on the principles of sonar, the same technology used by navies to detect planes and ships. This image testing procedure is capable of providing detailed images of the abdomen and its structures, including the organs, soft tissues, and blood vessels. The abdominal ultrasound is also routinely conducted to aid in several medical procedures, such as abdominal biopsy, cyst drainage, and to examine the abdominal blood flow. As the abdominal ultrasound is devoid of radiation, it’s considered to be the safest image diagnostics test to screen for abdominal issues.
